The Glacier Project

The Glacier Project is a visual exploration by Dutch artists Merel Klomp and Elmar Janse, co-founders of the creative studio Encrite.

A fine-art series, capturing the ephemeral beauty of Europe's glaciers, serving as a tribute to their magnificence while reminding us of their fragility. The Glacier Project reframes glacial processes through the lens of art. By exploring compositions, fractal patterns, scale, and negative space, the artists invite viewers to pause, wonder, and feel.

The idea emerged in 2018, when the artists witnessed a vast slab of ice breaking loose from a glacier’s edge. Breathtakingly beautiful, and at the same time, painfully finite. A moment that became the catalyst for their ongoing exploration. Since then, they have travelled across Europe, from France and Norway to Iceland, tracing the slow transformation of ice into water and landscape into memory.

They encourage reflection and spark dialogue about the interconnection between humans and the sublime of nature, believing that awe is the first step toward understanding.
